Reporting: common issues

Residents are advised to contact the right organisation, depending on the nature of the item being reported, the following numbers and information may be of assistance.

Problems connected with roads, pavements and drains, except those on the A21 (London Road) should be reported to East Sussex County Council via their Report a Problem service page.

All problems connected with the A21 (including pavements, greenery and drains), should be reported to Highways England via www.fixmystreet.com or by telephone on 0300 123 5000.

To report a missed rubbish bin collection, an environmental or building concern or problem, contact Rother District Council via their Report It service page.

Things to report to Hurst Green Parish Council

• problems connected with, or on Council land, such as Drewitts field, Stage field and the Children’s play park (Lodge field)
• damage or danger to the natural environment
• anything that you think the parish council would be interested in hearing about

Things to report to Rother District Council

• fly tipping
• dead animals
• graffiti
• flyposting and adverts
• street cleaning, including litter, dog fouling, discarded syringes and other drug related items in public places
• concerns and complaints relating to food hygiene, licensing and health and safety
• odour from industrial, trade or business premises
• light, dust, noise and smoke
• lost dog
• planning enforcement complaints
• excessive weeds or extremely untidy land

Things to report to East Sussex County Council

• fly tipping, flyposting, graffiti and adverts along the roadside, or at junctions
• problems with roads, signs, street lighting, vegetation, road marking, gritting
• problems with public drains on the highway (responsibility for sewers is Southern Water).

Things to report to Citizens Advice Consumer Service

Under a National Government initiative, consumer and general business advice is provided by the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on behalf of Trading Standards.

• doorstep sales and cold calling (also report to Sussex Police)
• approved traders
• underage sales (also report to Sussex Police)
• loan sharks
• counterfeit goods (also report to Sussex Police)

Things to report to the Environment Agency

• damage or danger to the natural environment
• pollution to water or land
• poaching or illegal fishing
• dead fish or fish gasping for air
• flooding from any river, stream, canal or natural spring
• illegal removals from watercourses
